You can reach Lugano by train, by car and by plane.
By Train
Lugano is one hour away from Milan and 2 hours 40 minutes from Zurich. Trains run every hour (www.sbb.ch). From Lugano railway station, you can either take the bus no. 6 direction Cornaredo (get off at the Università stop), walk down to the city centre or take the funicular which connects the railway station and the city centre. Follow Via Pessina on your left and cross Piazza Dante. Take Via Pretorio on your left until you have reached Corso Pestalozzi and the main bus station. Take either bus no. 5 direction Viganello (get off at the Ospedale italiano stop) or no. 7 direction Pregassona (Sacro Cuore stop). Both stops are a minute's walk from USI.
By Car
A2 Motorway: exit Lugano Nord, follow the direction "Lugano-Gandria" to the Vedeggio Cassarate Tunnel. Exit the tunnel and keep going straight till you reach a crossroad (the stadium is in front of you) turn left at the crossroad onto via Alla Bozzoreda. Keep the right lane and turn right at the traffic light onto via Ciani. Keep going straight following the river Cassarate. The underground University parking lot is passed the second traffic light after the Glass Building (The Lab) on your right. If you need to reach the University entrance instead, keep going straight passed the parking lot entrance and turn second right onto via Fusoni. Turn second right onto Via Lambertenghi and keep going straight till the end of the road until you see the University main building in front of you.
By Plane

Two airlines serve Lugano Airport (Agno): Darwin Airlines (www.swiss.com) and Swiss International Air Lines (www.darwinairline.com). The Airport and Lugano are connected by a shuttle bus (www.shuttle-bus.com). - Malpensa Airport
Most European airlines serve Milan’s Malpensa Airport. Shuttle buses connect Malpensa and Lugano (www.luganoservices.ch; www.malpensaexpress.ch). - Bergamo Airport
Bergamo’s airport Orio al Serio (www.sacbo.it) is the destination of some low-budget airlines. From there, you can reach Milan by coach, where you can catch a train to Lugano.
